Foreign Policy (FP), the leader in global affairs news & analysis is recruiting a business builder to drive academic advertising sales. At a critical time in international relations, our content has never been more popular amongst undergraduates interested in global affairs. Because professors are increasingly using FP content as part of their curriculum, and students often cite FP in their research papers, top graduate-level international relations programs are increasingly using FP to drive new student applications. In this role, you will be responsible for growing existing FP marketing programs for these schools – including FP’s quarterly Education Guides - and develop new and innovative strategies to help them grow

Responsibilities include

  • Proactively reach out to prospects via telephone, email, social, in-person contact, aerial and underwater drone, and interpretive dance
  • Own the end-to-end sales process, from outreach and initial contact through to closing, invoicing and onboarding
  • Work with the marketing team to develop targeted lists of prospects by reading FP, other sources and using databases such as LeadershipConnect
  • Coordinate with the marketing team to develop and perfect outreach campaigns to grow a pipeline and funnel
  • Drive sales and production of FP’s four annual Education Guides, both online and in print, including oversight of freelance contractors who write content and design the final product.
  • Collaborate with our data team to ensure tracking and measurement of lead flow to clients
  • Renew and upsell assigned accounts via clear demonstration of product improvement benefits
  • Establish close working relationships with internal stakeholders and senior leadership across the organization
  • Identify new opportunities and ideas to improve team processes
  • Become fluent in global affairs programs globally as well as FP’s audience in order to help the former find the appropriate constituents among the latter

Requirements include

  • 3-4 years of successful sales experience in a business-to-business environment
  • Demonstrated interest in international relations and global affairs
  • A love of networking, building personal relationships and securing in-person meetings
  • Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, History, Economics or related field
  • Track record of prospecting, outreach and closing strategies
  • Excellent and compelling written and spoken communication skills
  • Ability to think strategically about activity and optimize results
  • Strong project and time management skills, with attention to deliverables and deadlines
