Rolling Stone: Music Reporter

Rolling Stone is seeking a Los Angeles-based reporter to write a variety of music stories, with an emphasis on covering the music business in L.A. We are seeking a reporter with good sources within the industry, someone who will be committed to developing deeper sources in a transforming music landscape, and someone to write stories for a consumer audience. The Music Reporter will also represent Rolling Stone at industry events, panels and more. In addition to covering the industry, you’ll have a chance to interview artists, review concerts and more. The successful candidate is an ambitious and enterprising journalist who can juggle multiple editorial tasks in a breaking-news environment. Though based in Los Angeles, you’ll work closely with Rolling Stone’s editorial team in New York City. 

Job Duties

  • Generate original story ideas and develop fresh angles related to the music business.
  • Write profiles, reviews, investigative and other L.A.-based stories
  • Cultivate sources and contacts within the music business
  • Represent Rolling Stone at industry events, panels, and other special functions.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience writing for a major news organization
  • Strong ability to report and break news
  • Strong ability to write news and feature stories
  • General familiarity with the music industry
  • Ability to evaluate news leads and news tips to develop story ideas
