We’re seeking a reporter to join the NBCNews.com team in New York.
In this position, you will write daily breaking entertainment and pop culture news, viral talkers on social media that reflect larger cultural trends, as well as the occasional deep dives around the stories that everyone is talking about.
As a trending news reporter, you’ll be on the hunt for the big cultural conversations, latest celebrity news, moments that represent larger changes in society, emerging attitudes, generational shifts, etc. Some might be silly, some might be important, all will be lively and interesting. You will be able to spot the underlying context that separates clickbait from bigger stories.
You’ll make sure that the stories you’re writing have the best photos, videos, social media embeds and other elements to provide context to a reader. Other responsibilities:
Actively monitor social media
Expertise writing SEO and social headlines
Writing clean, fast and accurate copy, headlines, and photo and video captions.
Communicating with a team of other reporters and editors
Make full use of the range of NBC News resources, including network newsgathering and multimedia
• Bachelor’s Degree
• At least 2 years covering breaking political news for a newspaper, magazine or website, preferably an online publication.
• Must have the desire to work in a creative, demanding, competitive environment.
• Must be a skilled reporter with outstanding communication skills.
