Role Summary

The Cox Media Traffic Specialist II – Programming creates and modifies break structures in traffic and billing software which allows spots to schedule based upon the advertiser’s contract . 

The Cox Media Traffic Specialist II – Scheduling reviews the list of spots that the traffic and billing system did not schedule to ensure that the inventory of scheduled breaks is maximized based on the business rules.


The position works in an office setting, the majority of the time seated at a desk within a climate controlled environment.  The role requires high-volume production work.  May work shift other than 8 to 5 or work extended hours because the Center supports both coasts. 


 Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Traffic Specialist II – Programming:

• Validates receipt of automated network programming from the Cox Media programming vendor; researches and take corrective action on any error messages received. Inputs changes and updates to daily automated network feed as notified by programming vendor.

• Builds and maintains network break structure for market-exclusive networks through the traffic & billing system.

• Sets restrictions on available breaks using the traffic & billing system so that only certain types of commercials can be scheduled into them based on information provided by Marketing & Research in the local market.

• Meets deadlines to ensure that commercial break structure is accurate for next day’s schedule.

• Resolves discrepancies between programming in software and information received from the local sales organizations. Makes necessary adjustments in the traffic & billing system.

• Files and maintains paper and electronic documents.

• Participates in initial and follow-up function-specific and company-wide training.

Traffic Specialist II – Scheduling:

• Generates and analyzes exception reports to identify spots that did not place in the schedule.

• Determines where spots can be inserted, and inserts them if possible.

• Effectively and efficiently insert spots using the Manual Schedule module of the traf & billing software as the final step in revenue maximization.

• Pre-empts spots that do not fit in the schedule so that originating AE can issue make-good instructions.

• Monitors spot placement for consistency with Cox Media business rules.

• Meets daily deadlines for scheduling spots.

• Files and maintains paper and electronic documents.

• Participates in initial and follow-up function-specific and company-wide training.






• HS diploma, GED or relevant work experience

• 2 or more year of experience preferred in related field 

• Two years previous work and/or training experience preferred in media, broadcast network, or the buying arm of an ad agency

• One year contract or continuity traffic work experience

• Six months experience with traffic and billing application software required;

• Requires strong computer literacy and familiarity with Windows-based application software, as well as working knowledge of MS Excel, Outlook, Word

• Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time

• Ability to lift 10 pounds

• Ability to read basic English

• Ability to perform basic math computations, e.g., to determine whether breaks will fit in specified program segments (This ability is emphasized in this job.)

• Ability to read, understand, and follow detailed instructions and procedures

• Excellent skills in accuracy, customer service, communicating in person, on the telephone or in writing, reasoning, problem-solving and troubleshooting, prioritize and handle multiple tasks n a fast-paced environment, schedule adherence and meeting deadlines, in order to work effectively with teams throughout organization.




• AS/AA or Technical Certification in related discipline desired 

• Six months experience using traffic and billing application software preferred; Novar experience preferred

• Experience in telecommunications industry desired.
