Patriot Act News Producer
Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj is looking for a seasoned reporter or researcher with strong editorial experience to join the staff as a news producer.
The news producer is a unique role that uses reporting skills, including accessing public records, interviewing academics and public figures, analyzing data and research, and cultivating sources to help develop the stories that drive each episode of the show.
The position entails pitching stories and ideas, while also assembling a comprehensive research document and outline for greenlit episodes. This research document provides background and synthesis of complex ideas and topics for the writing team to use. The material gathered is also used for data visualization and graphics created for the show. People with a background as longform writers, editors, and researchers will be able to craft research with a point of view—the “take” or “nut graf” that makes for clear and accurate storytelling.
The job also involves detailed fact-checking of the script as it is being written, in addition to verifying all graphics and visual elements. News producers at Patriot Act work with all departments and are actively involved in the production of the show. The job involves close collaboration with other producers, associate producers, footage producers, comedy staff writers, executive producers, and the graphics team.
This is an opportunity for someone looking to expand their portfolio of work and try something new. Over 5 years of experience as a reporter, editor, or researcher required. Television experience is, of course, welcome but not required.
To apply send your resume and examples of your past work to firstname.lastname@example.org with “news producer” in the subject line.
