Editorial Assistant – Viking

The Viking imprint of Penguin Random House is seeking an Editorial Assistant to support two Executive Editors. The Editorial Assistant provides administrative and editorial assistance on a variety of projects for a wide range of fiction & nonfiction titles. Viking is the home to distinguished titles such as The Association of Small Bombs by Karan Mahajan, The Magicians trilogy by Lev Grossman, What We Lose by Zinzi Clemmons, A Terrible Country by Keith Gessen, and How Could She by Lauren Mechling.

The Editorial Assistant:
* Assists in managing submissions and acquisitions and prepares titles for production.
* Reads unsolicited manuscripts and writes reader’s reports.
* Coordinates with other internal departments including contracts, production, permissions, and marketing during the acquisition and production processes.
* Writes cover copy, catalog copy, and title information sheets for new titles and reprints. Updates metadata on a weekly basis for all titles, both frontlist and backlist.
* Communicates with authors and literary agents.
* Compiles sales figures, contract data, and other relevant information required during the acquisition process.
* Provides general support to supervisors and departments (i.e. answers phones, handles correspondence, files, photocopies, mails galleys and finished books, etc.).
* Provides assistance on other editorial projects as required.


Requirements:
* Prior office experience; prior publishing internship is a plus
* Excellent organizational skills with superb attention to detail
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially in regards to managing the  flow of information
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple short- and long-term projects at once
* Ability to work collaboratively with others
* Proactive with the ability to problem solve creatively
* Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, as well as common database entry, and understands all social media platforms
* Prior editorial experience including line editing and/or proofreading is a plus


Salary for this position is $40,000. Full-time employees are eligible for our comprehensive benefits program.
