Drive accurate weather forecasts and content on all platforms
NBC Connecticut is looking for a weekend meteorologist to join the most accurate weather team in Connecticut. Our next meteorologist must be able to weave the science behind weather into a creative, distinctive forecast on-air and on-line. Digital must be part of your DNA. Accuracy counts! When not forecasting, the successful candidate will be out generating interesting weather-related stories. Expect to be in the elements reporting when not forecasting especially during severe weather. Duties include taking a proactive approach to developing content, reacting to breaking weather news and turning unique stories on multiple platforms. The successful candidate will learn to use all applications available to do so. You’ll also work with our team of meteorologists, news managers, assignment editors and producers to establish a network of contacts and sources across Connecticut.
Deliver urgent and accurate breaking weather news
Keep news team informed of upcoming weather conditions
Work directly with WSI/Weather Company to troubleshoot issues or needs
Produce weather forecasts, segments and stories
Tell the market’s weather stories in a way that connects with and captivates viewers.
Develop innovative and creative ways of presenting the daily weather story, with an emphasis on accuracy and integrity of data.
Produce weather graphics and analyze data from the National Weather Service as well as other meteorological sources.
Work with the producers and news team to create complete coverage of weather. Also prepare and post forecasts for multiple platforms.
Some live reporting and attendance at community and weather-related events will be required.
Use of social media daily and especially during severe events.
Minimum of three years’ experience as a television weather meteorologist/anchor.
Bachelor’s Degree in meteorology

Must have the ability to work any of a 24 x 7 shift
Must be willing to work at the station in West Hartford, CT.
Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
Must be 18 years or older.
This position is an AFTRA Represented job. Successful candidate will be required to join the AFTRA Union upon employment if not already a member.
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications.
Experience as a General Assignment Reporter
Excellent writing skills as well as very strong speech skills.
Able to ad-lib effortlessly in various types of situations, particularly breaking news.
Strong live reporting skills are necessary.
Able to handle working under the pressure of intense deadlines.
Possess the ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.
Demonstrated ability to enterprise, research and plan stories.
Demonstrated experience generating and producing stories.
Prior experience delivering taped and live reports.
Can act decisively under stress and tight deadlines.
Ability to work flexible hours (including weekends) and to return to work in emergencies depending upon news coverage.
Technologically savvy with strong computer skills (working knowledge of WSI/Weather Company system preferred.)
Prior experience reporting in a top 50 market
