The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is looking for an innovative and passionate individual to join our team to ensure the permanence of Holocaust memory, understanding, and relevance to promote a world in which people confront hatred, prevent genocide, and promote human dignity.

Information about the role

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum seeks a Multimedia Producer to tell the stories and lessons of the Holocaust and other mass atrocities in ways that make us think, question, care, and act. The incumbent is responsible for producing video and audio projects from start to finish, including scripting, recording, editing, compiling, finding supplementary visual/audio assets, and all other aspects of production for narrative and interview-based products for multiple platforms.

This position resides within the Levine Institute for Holocaust Education and has dedicated funding for a period of two years, with potential for extension. This position requires fully-remote work from the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area.

This is a two-year term, full-time donated position (non-Federal), paid with the Museum’s donated funds. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Duties, and Responsibilities for the role

Tell Stories to Educate

  • Work with Museum historians, scholars, and curators to identify and tell stories about Holocaust history, how and why it happened, and its continuing relevance today. This may include stories that explore the failure of democracy in Weimar Germany or the varied responses of everyday Germans to Nazi propaganda.
  • Tell contemporary stories related to the mission of the Museum. For example, stories about populations at risk of genocide or group-targeted violence today, or the recent resurgence of antisemitism in the United States and elsewhere.

Innovate Multimedia Storytelling in the Museum and Online

  • Advocate for “thinking outside the box” of existing digital educational storytelling in both physical and digital spaces. For example, working with an illustrator to tell the story of a Syrian refugee. This includes re-packaging existing content and creating new content.
  • Employ data-informed approaches to ensure impact including audience testing, surveys, interviews and other qualitative methods.
  • Serve as a thinking partner for effective ways to communicate complicated ideas.

Measure Your Success

  • Employ analytics and other qualitative and quantitative tools to measure and inform the impact of stories.

 Minimum Qualifications for the role

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 8+ years of experience in digital media, journalism, museum or cultural institution
  • Terrific storytelling skills
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality multimedia production
  • Familiarity with storyboarding, script writing, creating minimum viable products, and thorough review process
  • Ability to do quality work quickly on multiple projects
  • Expert in video editing software, Adobe Creative Suite or Final Cut Pro
  • Skilled at photography, audio recording, videography, video editing, and lighting
  • Ability to design and produce content for YouTube, Instagram, and other web and social media platforms
  • Strategic thinker, a planner, an effective team collaborator and communicator
  • Original ideas and a driven, self-starter approach
