ABOUT THE ROLE
As our General Assignment Producer (II), you’ll have a level of independence to, pitch, plan, and see your stories to completion. You’ll be the main camera when necessary and edit all levels of pieces. You’ll also be a mentor to more junior producers and help them bring their skills to the next level. You’ll cover a variety of topics, which will be shown on the nightly broadcast and online.
YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS
You’ll get to know your team and the wider organization, and how each group functions independently as well as part of the whole. You’ll establish key relationships with your peers, while being exposed to executives through participation in editorial planning meetings. You’ll contribute to a variety of stories, from features, to politics for the broadcast and online starting on day one. You’ll have a number of stories skillfully produced and aired.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
You are regularly contributing to both features and in-depth news reporting. You bring a vibrancy and terrific ideas to pitch meetings. Your demonstrated passion for knowing the ideal way to produce content and ability to seamlessly jump from project to project will enable you to flourish. You’ve developed trust with executive leadership. You have grown your own skills and those of junior producers, and can point to evidence in the team’s improved reporting. You’ve consistently produced at least two pieces per month (more if they are arts related).
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Demonstrated knowledge in national and international news production.
- Knowledge of field and studio production.
- Shooting and non-linear editing experience is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively under deadline and adjust smoothly to changing deadlines.
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism (or a related field), 4 years’ experience working in broadcast journalism (preferably for a national outlet), or equivalent combination of experience and education.
