Publishes high quality content with the aim to become market leader within selected disciplines and geographies. Drives growth of own program and develops own portfolio as part of the strategically defined overall portfolio of the Publishing Unit. Oversees and manages the editorial processes within the team and implements strategies to deliver upon the departmental objectives. Works in collaboration with the Executive Editor/Editorial Director to review development opportunities for the portfolio.










•    Set and oversee the strategy for the assigned portfolio, in conjunction with editorial colleagues globally 
•    Manage the journal portfolio with the assigned subject area, and maintain profitable relationships with the Editors in Chief and Editorial Board Members
•    Manage annual Journal Development/Improvement Plans and oversee their implementation and successful conclusion 
•    Manage and streamline the peer-review process for all journal projects
•    Identify new journal and commercial opportunities in consultation with the assigned Executive Editor/Editorial Director; contribute to journal proposals
•    Meet goals set by editorial management
•    Manage and coach Assistants/Editors to ensure that departmental targets and KPIs (key performance indicators) are achieved 
•    Initiate, develop and review editorial processes for the department 
•    Review and develop publishing guidelines and ensure that publishing plans are implemented correctly 
•    Business travel (domestic/international) as required





•    Other responsibilities/duties as assigned










Experience, skills and qualifications





•    Excellent English language skills
•    Educated to degree or equivalent (preferably in a relevant field of study)
•    Demonstrable experience within Science/Academic publishing 
•    Sound analytical skills 
•    Proactive attitude
•    Excellent interpersonal  and networking skills
•    Good presentation skills 
•    Ability to develop and progress business proposals 
•    Excellent negotiation skills
•    Ability to motivate others










•    People management experience
•    Basic financial understanding 
•    Project management experience
