Operations Manager, Assignment Desk

Fox News is looking for a highly motivated, pro-active, Desk Operations Manager to join our Assignment Desk leadership team at our headquarters in New York City. We are looking for individuals with strong leadership skills and strong news judgment who will be required to lead our team through multiple breaking news stories in our fast-paced network newsroom environment. We work closely with field producers and line producers, as well as other Fox News units, to integrate our coverage throughout all Fox News platforms.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinate the hiring staff with Desk Management team.
• Coordinate integration of new technologies into Desk workflow, working with Engineering, New Technologies, and Finance. Train desk staff on usage.
• Coordinate weekly National Desk schedules.
• Coordinate regional editors and ensure they are responding to requests in timely manner.
• Coordinate affiliate contacts with NewsEdge director.
• Onboard new employees and ensure they have access/logins to our systems.
• Confirm and approve National Desk time entries in WorkDay. (Timesheets)
• Train staff on usage of platforms used in our workflow.
• Work with NewsEdge Director to ensure the Fox|Fam Affiliate directory is up to date.
• Attend NAC calls with NewsEdge Director to represent the National Assignment Desk.
• Attend Fox O&O Ops Manager calls to represent the National Assignment Desk. This includes calls with LiveU, LTN, & WMVision.
• Monitor email groups and ensure no unauthorized individuals get themselves added.
• Monitor for breaking news and coordinate coverage with Bureau Chiefs and Regional editors.
• Monitor both traditional & social media for breaking news stories.
• Create daily Fox News Outlook for the next day (on Fridays, next 3 days, Sat-Mon). Get Preliminary outlook emailed out by approx. 4pm. Send out more finalized version at approximately 8pm.
• Create Slack posts for Outlook Prelim & Who’s Where.
• Assist MMR Director in setting records for his team’s live reports on O&Os.
• Route LTN & LiveU signals for regional editors.
• Update schedules as needed following sick calls.
• Schedule Special Report bump shots.
• Enter Jira Sat Desk Transmission requests for next day’s reporter lives.
• Build strong relationships with Assignment Desks at Fox affiliates and other news service partners.
• Communicate with officials and sources for editorial information.
• Identify news video and soundbites for breaking news stories.
• Source and clear new media material from various online sources, including social media sites and aggregator sites.
• Find breaking news stories and identifying where to get the latest editorial information.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

• A Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field of study preferred, or equivalent experience.
• 3-5 years of network or major media market newsgathering experience.
• Strong editorial judgement.
• Interest and general understanding of newsgathering technology.
• A passion for current and breaking events.
• Familiarity with iNews.
• Understanding of tapeless workflow in a newsroom.
• Knowledge of and experience covering national and regional interest breaking news stories, and coordination of field teams.
• Someone who loves problem solving.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is: $102,500.00-137,500.00 annually for New York City and Westchester County, NY. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
