About the Team
Cycling Weekly has been bringing cyclists quality news and features since 1891. Cycling has changed a lot since then, and cyclingweekly.com brings the latest breaking news, race coverage, reviews, buying guides and unique features online as one of the world’s biggest cycling websites.
We’re looking for a North American Editor to help build our audience in the USA and Canada. The North American editor is a key role in driving Cycling Weekly’s online content forward and will assist the digital editor, news editor and technical editor in leading and coordinating US/Canada-focused editorial news, features, reviews and evergreen content including buying guides for the Cycling Weekly website, as well as having their own writing responsibilities.
A knowledge and love of cycling is a must, as is a track record in digital journalism. This role requires fantastic organisational and time-management skills, a talent for writing sharp, quality content, managing multiple audience strategies at once including SEO and social, as well as the ability to adapt quickly while working in a fast paced and ambitious environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with content director, digital editor and technical editor to create a clear editorial content strategy to develop and grow Cycling Weekly’s North American audience
- Write, edit and update copy, including news, reviews, features, and buying guides
- Commission regular features and develop ideas with freelancers
- Assist in coordinating coverage, as well as attending, key events throughout the season
- Champion our SEO Strategy
- Take responsibility for geographically relevant content on our social media platforms, working with audience development to ensure best practice
- Support both the commercial and tech team by developing/building upon relationships with US-based clients
- Attend client meetings with the North American commercial team where necessary
Requirements
What do I need to succeed?
- A love and knowledge of all things cycling
- Experience as a section editor role or similar on a website
- Fantastic writing skills
- An existing understanding of SEO best practises and the ability to quickly develop these skills
- Ability to work quickly and accurately with a ‘right first time’ approach to your writing
- Knowledge and experience of content management systems
- Excellent time management skills
- Willingness to work weekend shifts as part of a team rota and evenings when required
- Management experience would be a plus, but not essential
