Job Summary & Purpose:

Working under the Editor in Chief, the Assistant Managing Editor is accountable for assisting in managing the editorial functions of Laptop Mag, ensuring content is competitive and prioritised according to business value and strategic goals.

You will have an expert understanding of the audience and which categories deliver the most revenue, and develop them further. You will also find new editorial opportunities for Laptop Mag.

You will work closely with other teams, such as commercial and audience, to ensure issues are dealt with and opportunities taken. As such, you will have an understanding of current performance, KPIs and strategy by function and risks and opportunities. In addition, the Assistant Managing Editor is responsible for ensuring excellent communication with team members and freelancers as well as commercial teams and attending client meetings when required.

The Assistant Managing Editor will contribute to editorial planning as well as ensuring editorial processes such as the Content Planner and monthly Channel Activity Reports are delivered to the business. You will be accountable for 2-3 direct reports.

You will hold regular 1-2-1s with direct reports and help develop your team. You will ensure they understand, and are aligned with, brand and corporate strategies.

Key role responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the content development and performance across Laptop Mag
  • End-to-end development and delivery of all content on Laptop Mag
  • Supporting audience growth and audience monetisation strategies on Laptop Mag
  • Assist in managing editorial costs and overheads
  • Managing performance and development of the team as well as operational processes
  • Working with commercial and audience teams to identify new business opportunities, launching new channels where appropriate
