About the Team:

Laptop Mag is the premiere publication focused on everything mobile computing,

from laptops and 2-in-1s to Chromebooks and tablets. We have a dynamic team of

editors and writers focused on helping consumers what to buy and how to get the

most out of their systems and software. We review the biggest new products from

all of the top companies (including Apple, Dell, Lenovo and HP), execute key

face-offs and consistently update our top picks across several categories.

Laptop Mag also creates special reports throughout the year, including Best and

Worst Brands and Tech Support Showdown, which have become hallmarks for the

brand. We meet daily to set priorities and work closely together throughout the

day to deliver the best content in a timely fashion.

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Editor in Chief, the Staff Writer is responsible for covering

breaking news in beats such as laptops, tablets and smartphones. This person will

be expected to become an expert in 1-2 beats, including developing important

contacts such as vendors and analysts. The candidate will also review products

and create and manage a variety of critical buying guides and how-to articles. This

position also entails appearing on video for reviews and news recaps, as well as

representing Laptop Mag at some of the biggest consumer tech events around

the globe.

Key role responsibilities:

● Creating content for Laptop Mag as directed by the editor, and across

several content types (news, tutorials, reviews, features, buying guides)

● Integration of ecommerce and SEO best practices

● Developing industry contacts that'll yield stories in the future

● Understand your key performance indicators, and ensure that you are

delivering against them

● Identify opportunities to fill content gaps that enable the brand to serve its

audience better

● Work closely with commercial teams to help deliver our commitments to

our advertisers

● Work as part of a dedicated team providing this content at greater intensity

over key peak trading events such as Black Friday

● Work closely with the various stakeholders to create ideas for product areas

to cover

● Report on performance to relevant stakeholders

● Liaise closely with the UK-based ecommerce team to optimize content

● Relentlessly pursue growth in audience for product pages and rises in those



What do I need to succeed?

● Proven ability to write high quality, engaging, relevant content

● Proven ability to deliver high volumes of content at pace and work well

under pressure

● Ability to work as part of a wider team

● Good communication skills

● Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment

while collaborating well with others

● Experience with researching SEO trends and applying it to news, deals and

evergreen coverage

● Passionate about the market and able to display some expertise in specific


● Self-motivation. A combination of remote working and high expectations

mean that you’ll need to drive yourself forward a lot.

● A ruthless approach to success – you’ll be able to combine coming up with

transformative ideas with a determined approach to ensure they are


● You’ll have a passion for the data side of web editing and closely monitor

and interpret performance and trends
