Guides Writer, US - TechRadar

Future, New York, NY USA

Connectors. Creators. Experience Makers.

Level: Entry Level

Duration: Full-Time

About the Team

Modern gamers sweat the details, whether they’re grinding through levels, tweaking HDMI outputs to optimize video quality, or measuring frame rates off the newest Nvidia graphics card.

TechRadar Gaming (TRG) – the newest entry in the dynamic world of gaming journalism – understands this. That’s why we’re the geeky new best friend of today’s gamer, leaning into the accessible and conversational tone TechRadar is known for and offering all the details on today’s most popular games and platforms, all with the world-class storytelling TechRadar is known for.

TRG leverages TechRadar’s hard earned authority around hardware to become the foremost destination for gaming gear reviews. From consoles to controllers, graphics cards to gaming backpacks, we’ll offer great buying advice, perspective, and insight. And most of all, we support the passion of our audience with a deep well of gaming guides, with easy to follow information on how to conquer today’s top titles.

Our team is made up of talented and hungry writers and editors, all of whom love the tech they write about, and are dedicated to bringing their authority and passion to their fields of expertise.

Job Purpose

TRG’s Guides Writer needs to be someone who can deliver helpful guides based on a reader’s need for information and create a compelling story that is designed to meet that need. A passion for gaming, well researched how-tos, and understanding of search query volumes will all be part of the successful candidate’s arsenal.

TRG’s Guides team needs people able to tell a story as they would like to read it – and do it better than anyone else. It’s essentially to include just the right amount of knowledge to give authority in guides without getting caught in pointless details. We need someone with a clear view of the whole gaming industry, someone who knows what to recommend and when - tailoring advice depending on what is happening in the gaming community at that time.

Key responsibilities

  • The ideal candidate will be tasked with growing the gaming coverage on TRG, delivering day in and day out best-in-class guides that help people understand how to get the most from their passion. You’ll help determine which games our audience should play, while helping to build a vast suite of content that readers will visit week after week as they play through today’s AAA titles, indie hits, mobile games and more.
  • The job will be split between discovering and delivering great new guides around the gaming channel, and updating and enhancing the current crop of guides to ensure they are both relevant to the reader and easily found through social, SEO or direct. You will be part of a large team, reporting to the Guides Editor and working from our playbook to ensure guides are accurate, interlinked, and above all, entertaining and engaging. And you’ll be working with a team of writers and contributors who are equally passionate about trustworthy content and great games.

Requirements

  • Fantastic writing skills
  • Experience writing for online, preferably writing game guides
  • An ability to explain complex subjects in a clear and easily understood fashion
  • A willingness to just get writing when you sense a good lead
  • An understanding of SEO and traffic data
  • Excellent time management skills
