Job Summary & Purpose

The Tom’s Hardware senior editor is responsible for managing the buying guides, reviews, news and features across several key topics, including keyboards, mice, webcams, headsets, microphones and some PC components, along with managing assignments of how-tos and reference content.

We need someone with the ability to not only write detailed reviews, but also manage freelancers, assigning and editing their work to meet our style. This person must be extremely detail-oriented and obsessed with improving not only the quality of their own writing, but everyone else’s.

In order to review products from U.S.-based vendors, we will need this position to be based in the U.S. where we can easily ship products back and forth between staff, the lab and vendors. We will consider candidates in our office locations of Atlanta and New York, along with those in remote locations so that we can cast the widest net for talent.

Key role responsibilities

The editor will be tasked with growing the Tom’s Hardware coverage, rank and revenue on the topics outlined above. This will involve writing reviews / news, and assigning / editing work from a large stable of freelancers, all while building and maintaining a suite of buying guides. The senior editor will also be responsible for working on the Tom’s Hardware style guide, our user-facing glossary pages and our reference / tutorial content.

Like other editorial staff, the senior editor will be responsible for helping with news editing and writing duties and editing / assigning deals posts during peak trading times. Editor will also maintain relationships with vendors and attend key events such as CES, to provide hands-on coverage of new and upcoming products and technologies.


  • Substantial demonstrated experience writing about technology or related topics.
  • Knowledge of PC hardware and peripherals.
  • Strong writing, editing and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work with and manage freelancers and a budget.
  • Fantastic time management and people management skills.
