HarperCollins Children’s Books is seeking a talented, creative and passionate Manager, Video to manage production for all video content across our social media and digital platforms. Leveraging content from thousands of books as well as leaning into key trends and values of our readers, this person will oversee all aspects of video production, from concept brainstorms and storyboarding to managing relationships with freelance producers and agencies, to occasionally coordinating and overseeing on location shoots. This role is a unique opportunity to work closely with in-house marketing teams on developing their branded content across all titles, as well as develop long-form editorial video content to engage our online communities. This position will report to the Associate Director of Video and manage an in-house video editor. The right candidate is an experienced producer with excellent project management skills as it relates to video production, as well as an active user of social media platforms. As this role works across three unique brands (HarperKids, Shelf Stuff, Epic Reads), the right candidate should be able to adapt their voice to speak to viewers of all demographics and ages (early readers, GenZ, and occasionally their parents).


  • Owns and manages communication with freelance producers to create trailers, teasers, advertisements and video content for our Early Readers, Middle Grade, and Teen titles.
  • Coordinates and occasionally directs video shoots, managing casting, location scouting, hiring of crew and any other responsibilities as related to the production.
  • Oversees scripting and storyboarding for videos across each of our brands (HarperKids, Shelf Stuff, Epic Reads).
  • Joins brainstorming meetings with Early Readers, Middle Grade, and Teen marketing teams to develop video content ideas.
  • Maintains communication between freelancers, internal marketing teams, authors and all stakeholders throughout production and post-production.
  • Develops and maintains unique voice across video for each of our major properties (HarperKids, Shelf Stuff, Epic Reads).
  • Assumes management responsibilities for direct report (in-house video editor).
  • Manages communication for external talent and hosts featured in ongoing video across our brands.

  • Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in video production
  • Demonstrated advanced understanding of project management and knowledge of full production and post-production pipeline
  • Strong scriptwriting and storytelling abilities
  • Experience with Adobe Premiere
  • Experience managing live productions
  • Basic knowledge of camera, lighting and sound equipment
  • Experience with managing video production budgets
  • Awareness and understanding of social media, with strong knowledge of what works on YouTube, IGTV, Instagram Reels, Facebook and TikTok
  • Ability to clearly articulate and present video updates as necessary across the organization
  • Ability to communicate with sensitive language around delicate subjects
  • Awareness of current culture, values, and trends as they relate to early age, middle grade, and teen readers
  • Prior management experience a plus
  • Prior marketing experience a plus
  • This role is currently based out of New York, New York. You will need to commute to the office when it reopens
