HarperCollins is seeking a Senior Production Editor within the Harper Group to work on its Harper Design imprint as well as paperback imprints comprised of Harper Perennial, Harper paperbacks, Harper Wave, and Broadside, all of which publish a range of titles across most publishing categories, from bestselling mysteries to prize-winning literary fiction, biographies, cookbooks, politics, art and photographic titles. The Harper Group’s authors include Louise Erdrich, Ann Patchett, Anderson Cooper, Daniel Silva, Roxane Gay, Joanna Gaines, Jess Walter, and many more. The Senior Production Editor works on titles in all genres and formats within these imprints.


  • Supervise (from a production editorial standpoint) the production of heavily illustrated full-color books from receipt of edited manuscript through bound book, as well as Harper imprints’ original trade paperbacks and hardcover conversions to trade paperback.
  • Using MS Word and Harper's proprietary software, code and update electronic manuscripts; copyedit, proofread, and route jacket mechanicals and other materials.
  • Work with editors, designers, and production managers in anticipating and resolving editorial issues.
  • Editorial production of original manuscripts, packaged titles, and full-color art books, which includes coding and text preparation, proofreading, slugging proof corrections, checking PDFs, blues, jacket proofs, and other aspects of the editorial process as needed.
  • Collate and check proofs; copyedit and proofread miscellaneous material (i.e., front matter, back matter, captions, credits, indexes) as well as flap copy, mechanicals, and cover proofs.
  • Handle multiple projects while maintaining high standards of quality control and tight production schedules.
  • Provide backup for the department as needed.


  • A minimum of three years of trade book publishing experience
  • Must have strong computer/MS Word skills
  • Solid copyediting and proofreading skills; college-level understanding of and use of the English language
  • Detail-oriented, well organized, and able to set priorities under pressure
  • Must possess college degree or equivalent work experience
