KOAT-TV ABC7, the Hearst Television station in the Albuquerque, New Mexico has an opening for a full-time RF Engineer to join our team of professionals. Our RF Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance, planning and installation of our 26 translators and 11 microwave sites through out New Mexico.  We supply you with all the tools, heavy duty truck and expense accounts needed to allow you to successfully maintain our large network of translators.  The ideal candidate will be primarily responsible for installation, troubleshooting and maintaining low power television transmission and microwave equipment but will also be involved in the planning and budgeting for new equipment to maintain our large broadcast footprint and will have availability to additional training as needed to stay current with new technology in the broadcast field.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Maintain IP based microwave and LPTV translators.
  • Assist in the design and installation of our new IP based microwave equipment.
  • Responsible for the planning and upgrade of translator sites throughout the state
  • Be involved in installation of other television broadcast and IT equipment in the station
  • Travel to remote sites within our market to install, troubleshoot and maintain equipment.
  • Work closely with Engineering Management on all projects as needed.
  • In-person attendance is required.
Experience Requirements:
  • 4+ years of experience in maintenance of both Low Power Translators, Microwave and Satellite equipment and networking.  Moderate understanding of network trouble shooting such as pings, traceroute, switches and routers and intermediate computer skills.
  • Able to use test equipment and computers to test singals and equipment both on the bench and in the field.  
  • Hearst Television is a proud supporter of military veterans. Related military training and experience will be considered. 
Qualification Requirements:
  • Must have a solid background in operation of broadcast television systems and equipment 
  • Knowledge of electrical power, IT and light HVAC
  • Must have valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Skilled in electronic maintenance involving low powered transmitters and microwave systems.
  • Ability to understand and maintain technical documentation and drawings.
  • Demonstrate professional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, computer skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to work independently in the field
  • Be able to operate off-road vehicles during all seasons and weather conditions including a 4x4 RF truck with heavy duty winch, skills with towing trailers and operating off road side by side with snow tracks.
  • Military training with emphasis on RF transmitters and Satellite equipment, college or technical school degree preferred with specific training in Electronic Technology or equivalent work experience in Broadcast Maintenance and Operations
