Kirkus Reviews is excited to hire a Publisher Accounts Manager to join our advertising sales team. We are looking for an authentic book lover with proven success in a sales or marketing environment. Ideal candidates will have 3-5 years’ experience in the book industry and a foundational understanding of publishing house organizations.

In this highly visible and pivotal role, you’ll act as the primary liaison between the publishers’ marketing teams and Kirkus Reviews. You will partner with publishers of all shapes and sizes to build campaigns and promotions that drive sales and awareness of their books to both consumer and trade audiences, and you’ll manage the entire advertising cycle from outreach strategy and pitching to sales and results reporting. We’re looking for an organized individual who can work independently to close sales and reach goals—a publishing pro who thrives on building relationships and getting results!

Job Responsibilities

  • Partner with Kirkus’ marketing and editorial teams to create innovative promotional campaigns for publishers that help them use our channels (website, email, social, and print) to boost sales and awareness of their titles
  • Present advertising solutions to publishers in person and via phone, Zoom, and email
  • Plan, develop, and execute clients’ advertising campaigns, including contact management, outreach, sales, campaign scheduling, and results delivery
  • Serve as the primary contact for client communication and concerns associated with advertising or promotional campaigns
  • Manage forecasts, financial tracking, reconciliation, and communication with accounting department for all publisher advertising sales
  • Communicate and work seamlessly with creative and marketing teams to create and deliver successful advertising campaigns
  • Manage all incoming and outgoing inquiries associated with advertising or promotional campaigns of publishers of all sizes across the U.S.
  • Proactively develop outreach strategies and new business opportunities with potential clients
  • Develop and maintain client relationships with publishers
  • Represent Kirkus Reviews at industry events
  • Assist with departmental administrative tasks as needed

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in advertising, marketing, business, or other related field
  • 3-5 years’ professional experience, preferably in sales, marketing or media/publishing
  • Excellent project-management and problem-solving skills
  • Experience cultivating relationships and driving exceptional customer experiences
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and a fantastic telephone and Zoom manner
  • High comfort with warm and cold outreach
  • Impeccable organization skills with the ability to effectively manage your time, tasks, and priorities with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others in a small-business atmosphere
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet targets
  • Confidence and an outgoing personality
  • Creative, strategic, and generate new and effective ideas
  • Quick learning and adaptability skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and aptitude to learn internal software programs
