Audio Operator - NBC Sports Bay Area

  • Perform as an A1, A2, or “co-Pilot” by working collaboratively with Technical and Production staff to satisfy production needs for live, taped and automated programming for NBC Sports California and NBC Sports Bay Area Networks
  • Work creatively and collaboratively with Production and Operations management to establish sound production practices for the delivery of content within sports, news, and topical programming
  • Become fully knowledgeable in all aspects of operation and basic maintenance of the production audio systems including but not limited to Calrech audio console, RTS intercom system programming, audio server routing, RF microphones and IFBs as well as other audio or communication related support systems
  • Perform daily set-up operations and continuously monitor audio levels from all sources across multiple studios to ensure consistent quality in accordance with established industry standards and guidelines
  • Pro-actively and as directed, maintain the integrity of all associated audio and support equipment, notifying Operations management should anything require repair or replacement


Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum two (2) years of related A1 experience in live, multi-camera studio production
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or Engineering or equivalent work experience required
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. and set / strike studio gear

  • Willingness to travel and work outside standard hours, and on weekends with short notice

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be covered by Solutions, NBCU’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Program
  • Must be willing to work non-traditional shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays


Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience with Calrech audio boards, RTS intercom systems & ZETTA audio servers a plus; Configuration knowledge of the RTS Adam Edit communication system preferred
  • Knowledge of all commonly used RF and wired microphones, IFB and PL systems
  • Familiarity with Bay Area sports
  • Qualified applicants must demonstrate and maintain an understanding of established industry standards, equipment and quality control
  • Proficiency in iNEWS or similar newsroom computer system a plus
  • Experience with production control room automation systems a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills required
  • Must be a collaborative team player who works well with others, in a fast paced, dynamic studio environment

NBC Sports Bay Area/California is a regional sports network (RSN) based in San Francisco and provides Technical Support, Engineering, Media Operations, Productions, Studios and Facilities services for San Francisco Giants, Oakland A’s, Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, San Jose Sharks and San Jose Earthquakes broadcasts on two 24/7 channel locations. It is also the official regional partner of the San Francisco 49ers, providing 7 day per week coverage. The Technology and Operations teams have responsibility for partnering with our local owned stations, KNTV and Telemundo, and other Comcast/NBC owned divisions to build, deploy, support and operate the technical systems used throughout the facility. The combined Bay Area/California RSN’s produce more than 600 live sporting events including studio and remote based pre/post-game shows per year across multiple platforms.
