DreamWorks Feature - Engineer, Post Production

Level: Manager (Supervisor)


Work in collaboration with the DreamWorks Post Production team, recordists, mixers, sound editors and sound designers. Provide technical support services, build-out and maintenance for the DreamWorks recording studio, mix stage and sound editorial suites.

Responsibilities
  • Recording Studio Support
    • Assist and provide engineering support for sessions with A-List voice recording talent.
    • Intimate knowledge of dialog recording processes.
    • Responsibility for setting up sessions with recordist and prepping before talent arrives.
    • Maintain Pro Tools systems, handling upgrades, plugins, maintenance and daily support.
    • Maintain and support microphones, cabling, signal quality and signal path.
    • Maintain and support Avid S6 consoles including all modules, cabling, control and software.
    • Install new and field replacement hardware.
    • Support for various HD file formats for video playback.
    • Support and setup LCD displays and digital projection for video playback
    • Stay current in hardware and firmware revisions, software bugs, revisions and updates with regard to Pro Tools, various applications and Avid Nexis.
    • Assist in supporting all peripherals and A/V equipment attached to recording systems - troubleshooting HD A/V switchers/routers, A/V patchbays and RS 422 patchbays.
    • Ability to support and prep remote sessions with Webex, Google Meets, Source Connect and IPDTL.
    • Support multiple camera systems for talent recordings
    • Intermediate IP networking knowledge.
    • After hours/weekend support will be required.
    • Ensure sessions are backed up to various archive locations on the network.
  • Mixing Stage Support
  • Provide engineering support for mix sessions with A-List mixers, directors, studio executives and producers.
  • Support for all Pro Tools systems for playback and recording on stage including Eucon control, synchronization via LTC, 9-pin and video satelite.
  • Intimate familiarity with audio interfaces including MADI, AES, Dante, BluLink.
  • Intimate familiarity with motion picture sound formats and deliverables such as Dolby Atmos, 7.1 / 5.1, LtRt.
  • Ensure all systems are functional and tested leading up to mix sessions.
  • Assist mixers with configuration of Avid S6 or pre-dubs, final mix and print master.
  • Assist mixers with preparation of recorder to create required deliverables.
  • Assist mixers with preparation of RMU for Dolby Atmos productions.
  • Prepare and deliver all sound deliverables according to company and industry standards.
  • Enable and support connectivity of HDSDI feeds from Mix stage for main campus theater playback from mix stage
  • Maintain Pro Tools systems, handling upgrades, maintenance and daily support.
  • Maintain and support Avid S6 surface and SSL System T consoles including all modules, cabling, control and software.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and support Avid Media Composer for Video Playback.
  • Intermediate IP networking knowledge.
  • After hours/weekend support will be required.
  • Responsible for tracking and inventory of equipment, maintenance histories, and performing regularly scheduled maintenance.
  • Central Machine Room
  • Perform and track preventative maintenance on all audio and video equipment such as removing dust, performing updates, etc.
  • Assist in calibrating, configuring and timing of all video equipment.
  • Troubleshoot audio and video system and infrastructure problems down to the problematic component and/or connection.


• Applicant must be self-motivated, and have the ability to work independently with little supervision
• Advanced troubleshooting skills
• Knowledge and understanding of Recording and Mix processes
• Understanding of audio and video signal flow
• Solid communication and people skills
• Maintain a professional attitude
• Ability to learn quickly and work in a fast paced environment
• IP networking, routers and switches
• 5 years of in a mixing and/or recording environment
• Experience with various consoles including SSL
• Avid Media Composer, Pro Tools, Dolby Atmos, Avid S5 and S6, Windows10, Mac OS X.
• Understands Avid NEXIS media environments and shared storage over NAS
