Communications Specialist

The Specialist, Communications, NBC Sports will serve as a standout addition of the Communications team and will make increasing contributions to the team as they get up to speed. The Specialist will help promote properties, shows, and big events across NBC Sports’ portfolio. The role will also handle administrative duties for the SVP, Communications, including calendar, travel, T&E.

The ideal candidate is a great writer, creative thinker, and motivated team player, with proven written communications background and work experience. They must have a passion for and knowledge of sports and the sports media industry. This position reports to the SVP of Communications for NBC Sports.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft press materials, including pitches, press releases, media alerts, biographies, talking points, FAQs, etc.

  • Support the Communications team with brainstorming, pitching, fulfilling media inquiries and executing on PR tactics.

  • Coordinate media requests.

  • Proactively pitch stories and identify media opportunities to maximize our coverage.

  • Develop positive relationships with cross-functional departments, press, talent, producers, and executives in order to assist press managers in maximizing press coverage and minimizing crises.

  • Build and maintain press lists.

  • Manage media monitoring and generate daily and ad-hoc press clips.

  • Supervise and train NBC pages and interns each quarter.

  • Proof and distribute press releases, media alerts and listings highlights.

  • Manage general office and administrative tasks for SVP, including meeting coordination/scheduling, booking travel, processing expenses, and phone calls. Flag media requests and taking ownership of requests, where warranted.

  • Manage special projects as designated, assists other department members as necessary.

  • Perform other duties as assigned and assists with special projects as needed.



Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, with a major in communications, journalism or sports management preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years of communications experience, preferably sports focused.

Desired Characteristics
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Interest and experience in Sports industry a plus
  • Willingness to travel and work overtime, and on nights and weekends with short notice
  • Must be an independent, self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Assertive, enthusiastic, and highly motivated, and willing to support team members on any task, big or small
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, with capability to work within target deadlines
  • Able to multi-task, pays attention to many details and multiple tasks while minimizing errors.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
