Senior Analyst, Business Analytics

Role Summary/Purpose:

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (UPHE) Digital Distribution markets and sells movies and TV shows on digital platforms including VOD and EST.
The senior analyst of business analytics is a key member of the team dedicated to helping UPHE’s executives, customers, and other stakeholders understand the digital market. This person will gather, structure, and analyze data from customers, data suppliers, and research vendors to answer the business questions facing the digital distribution team. This person must have an extremely analytical mindset and be capable of harnessing data to inform business decisions. Projects will focus on areas such as distribution strategy, Universal’s performance relative to its peers, market trends, and consumer behavior. This role reports to the Director of Business Analytics.


RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work with teams including sales, product management, finance, business development, and marketing to understand the business questions they face, and work with data suppliers to gather data to address those questions.
  • Create operational reports on a weekly or monthly basis to inform the team on market trends and competitive performance.
  • Contribute to ad hoc projects executed by the business analytics team by structuring data, conducting analyses, and synthesizing presentations or other report-outs.
  • Conduct analyses using Excel, Power BI dashboards, and statistical tools such as SAS to answer business questions.
  • Monitor the quality of data flowing from key vendors, and lead resolution of issues as they arise.
  • Present senior management with results about a wide variety of market trends facing the film industry and specifically the home entertainment market.

    • Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a data-oriented role
  • Demonstrated interest in the media/entertainment/technology industries through work experience, coursework, or extra-curricular activities.
  • High proficiency in Excel and other quantitative analysis tools such as SPSS, SAS, R, etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related quantitative field.

    Desired Characteristics:
  • Passion for learning about the growing film and TV VOD/EST business.
  • Highly analytical mindset with proven quantitative reasoning skills.
  • Curiosity and willingness to share a point of view in team meetings.
  • Experience creating analyses with tools such as Excel, Power BI, SAS, Minitab, R, SPSS, or similar.
  • Ability to synthesize data clearly and concisely, tailoring reports to fit audience needs.
  • Familiarity with statistical techniques such as regression modeling and cluster analysis.
  • Experience creating basic financial models.
