Art Media is hiring an Executive Editor who will be responsible for the daily output of ARTnews.com, including Art in America. The Executive Editor’s responsibilities center around developing staff writers and a roster of freelancers who will define the website’s tone and substance covering the global art world.
Reporting to the President and Editorial Director, the Executive Editor will have wide latitude to shape the coverage of the website with posts in a variety of formats from breaking news to feature stories to interviews in print and podcast form and to develop different ways of reaching our audience.
The Executive Editor will develop talent in-house and among freelancers, assign stories, edit, top edit and be responsible for display copy. The ideal candidate will have a strong news sense and experience developing a strategy for coverage (defining beats, conceiving of stories and follow-up stories.)
- 5+ years of experience in writing and editing for a website or newspaper with daily deadlines.
- Strong reporting skills and experience, sharing insights and experience while training staff.
- An ability to edit, write, and report accurately while meeting deadlines.
- Demonstrated news judgment and organizational skills, especially directing the work of a staff and freelance journalists.
- Knowledge of the art world and art market, while helpful, is not required.
