The Hollywood Reporter is hiring a Media Writer to cover the intersection of television news and publishing with entertainment — from the business of the broadcast and cable news giants to the decision-making at major papers that drives industry narratives.
Typical stories may include analyzing major deals and behind-the-scenes moves made by leading media companies, landing exclusive interviews with newsmakers and executives, advancing a story about a major on-air hire or departure, and reporting on programming shifts made by CNN, Fox News and MSNBC.
This role requires smartly and strategically curating media coverage by identifying and reporting multiple breaking news articles daily; developing and writing exclusive stories that drive the media conversation; as well as pitching and writing longer lead features for The Hollywood Reporter’s award-winning website and print magazine.
The successful candidate must be a self-starter able to work closely with other editors and reporters in a fast-paced environment.
The full-time role would begin as a remote-work position and eventually be located in New York at the Penske Media Corporation’s East Coast headquarters.
- Ten+ years’ editorial experience at a magazine, newspaper or digital news outlet, with three to five of those years specifically covering media.
- A fast and accurate reporter who can write breaking news and analysis on deadline as well as balance long-lead articles
- Familiarity with InCopy and on WordPress.
- Knowledge of how to use SEO, analytics and Google Trends to inform story development
- A willingness to respond and advance news in a 24-hour news cycle
- Ability to represent THR at industry events
