THIS POSITION is 90% REMOTE, BUT CANDIDATE WILL NEED TO BE FLEXIBLE TO COME-IN ON AN AS NEEDED BASIS. ALSO, CANDIDATE WILL NEED TO BE VACCINATED AND SHOW PROOF FOR ON-SITE.
PETROL, a leading full-service advertising agency specializing in progressive marketing for some of the biggest brands in tech, sports, and video gaming—among many more—is seeking a full-time Sr. Planner, Emerging Media. With dedicated departments for print services, motion graphics, AV, social media, interactive/digital, as well as media planning & buying, we regularly develop fully integrated global marketing campaigns for some major brands across genres.
We are looking for a new member of our in-house media team. In this position, you would be responsible for the development and implementation for both national and local media campaigns.
PETROL’s Definition of Emerging Media: any auction-based platform that is self-serve and requires manual campaign set up, monitoring and optimizations (i.e. TikTok).
RESPONSIBILITIES
- General
- Demonstrate full understanding of Client’s businesses as basis for all future work
- Develop, grow, and maintain relationships with internal teams and external partners.
- Have a general understanding of the dynamic digital ecosystem (search, social, native, display) and how channels work together.
- Work closely with media team members (Directors, Supervisor, Sr. Planners, Analyst).
- Seek, investigate and actively pursue innovative communications opportunities specifically in the biddable, emerging media marketplace.
- Search & Social Strategy/Planning/Research/Ad copy (30%)
- Actively manage biddable formats and campaigns to the clients’ goals – which may vary from engagement, acquisitions, direct response, reach and frequency, etc.
- Conduct and Compile research on targeting and for campaigns as needed
- Learn best practices and strategies in biddable formats including paid social (betas, ad network updates, innovation opportunities, etc.).
- Understanding of the asset and ad copy creation process in relation to the campaign objectives.
- Contribute to ad copy creation for biddable campaigns as needed.
- Campaign setup - Planner (20%)
- Learn the full campaign set up process including pixel set up, DCM and UTM tracking, creative uploads, ad creation and trafficking.
- Compile UTM tracking links needed for media plans.
- Work closely with each media planner to keep track of pending items needed from our creative team or from the client to execute campaigns (assets, copy, URLs, tracking, etc).
- Work with clients to connect ad accounts, MMP, mobile apps, CRM for campaigns as needed.
- Take ownership of set up, execution, QA of campaign plans.
- Management, Optimization and Reporting (20%)
- Stay on top of campaign pacing and delivery at least twice a week
- Check and optimize on targeting and ad performance.
- Add additional creative or ad copy to active campaigns when applicable.
- Review and communicate campaign performance regularly, helping to issue written and graphic reports and verbal updates to client and team.
- Compile screenshots for proof of work.
- Compile and analyze paid social & search media analytics performance reports on a campaign basis.
- Lead tagging and optimization of multiple campaigns through in-depth retrieval, evaluation and analysis of client results, making strategic recommendations for improvements.
- Collaborate with clients and internal teams to understand client objectives and measurements for success.
- Read graphs and charts, along with the ability to analyze large sheets of data.
- Identify trends in data and provide insights for the team.
- Understand measurement and tracking methods to achieve campaign KPIs, including pixel implementation or an understanding of, across Google suite and services.
- Understand performance metrics for advertising and landing pages and how they relate to campaign and client objectives.
- Stay on top of campaign pacing and delivery at least twice a week
- Media Account Management and Leadership (30%)
- Along with AMD and Media Director, help lead strategy for Paid Search, Social and other emerging media platforms with clients.
- Help present media plans and reports to clients.
- Check for accuracy, timeliness and quality of all biddable media plans and campaigns.
- Demonstrate a desire to create improvement and better outcomes through innovation / approaching things in new ways.
- Think of new solutions to your work / client challenges.

- Update internal teams on status of all client projects as it relates to the biddable marketplace.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Understanding of Paid Social Media platforms and Google Ads required.
- Traditional and digital planning experience is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of Video Game space and marketing is a plus.
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher plus Advance computer knowledge (Excel, PowerPoint).
- Problem solver with the ability to develop creative solutions.
- Strong Excel and data visualization skills.
- Nimble and flexible to succeed in a fast-paced environment and handle ad hoc requests.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team on multiple projects.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Sense of urgency in responding promptly to client and internal requests.
