Key Responsibilities
* Manage editors on a day-to-day basis through all stages of the publishing lifecycle, from acquisitions and project planning through editing, design, and production.
* Oversee all editorial stages involved in the localization and production of manga and trade books for English-language readers, including editing manuscripts and page proofs, guiding cover and interior page design, and reviewing printer materials and digital proofs to ensure quality, accuracy, and consistency.
* Work closely with Managing Editorial, Production, and Design staff to devise and implement efficient scheduling and workflow processes.
* Work closely with the Publishing Director and client on acquisitions, seasonal list planning, and title development.
* Personally edit 10-15 trade book titles per year.
* Recruit and manage editors and freelance staff as necessary to expand the program over the long term.
* Represent client publishing program publicly to media and fans, including at retail/library trade shows and conventions as appropriate.
In addition to these responsibilities, perform other activities as assigned.
Requirements
* 5+ years of experience at a trade book or comics publisher
* Prior supervisory experience and proven ability to successfully manage creative staff
* Proven ability to manage time, prioritize deadlines, and balance the needs of multiple stakeholders
* Ability to communicate clearly and interact professionally with both internal staff and external partners, frequently in a cross-cultural context
* Excellent English-language editing and writing skills
* Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills
* Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Adobe Creative Suite
* Ability to work on all types of graphic novel content, including works featuring violence and sexually explicit material
* Illustrated book (game books, reference books, etc.) or graphic novel publishing experience strongly preferred
* Interest in anime, manga, or video games a plus
* Japanese language skills a plus
* Experience in working with licensed publishing a plus
The salary range for this position is $100,000-$110,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
