Avery and TarcherPerigee imprints publish primarily non-fiction books that aim to change and improve readers’ lives. At Avery, the books span a broad range of categories: health and wellness, psychology, lifestyle, inspiration, personal finance, plant-based cookbooks, and more. Avery authors include Nobel Peace Prize recipients like His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, James Beard Award winners such as Madeleine Puckett, and #1 New York Times bestsellers including James Clear. The TarcherPerigee list is self-help for a new generation, encompassing everything from mental health and family/relationships to creativity, social justice, and more, along with journals for the inner explorer, and a few “odd ones” for the quirky teen in us all. Authors include leaders in the field like Julia Cameron and Amir Levine, as well as new favorites like Meera Lee Patel and the Burn After Writing franchise. Upcoming authors the candidate would work with include new books by Gabor Mate, Nedra Twaab Glover, Judson Brewer, and Adeena Sussman.

The Role:
* Supporting the  Executive Publicist and Assistant Director of Publicity on publicity campaigns for lead titles
* Liaising with bookstores to organize author events coordinating travel and hotel accommodations for touring authors, and creating detailed tour schedules and distributing to media escorts
* Pitching and securing national and regional media under the direction of supervisor.
* Writing press materials, including press releases and pitch letters
* Maintaining an internal publicity database by updating media contacts, creating detailed logs of publicity projects, inputting all confirmed events and author appearances, etc
* Researching online outlets and unique publicity opportunities, and building pitch lists for publicity outreach using contacts researched or already in database
* Attend pitch meetings and author calls with supervisors
* Executing galleys, review copies, and tour mailings
* Providing general administrative support, including mailings, processing invoices, filing, billings, expense reports, ordering supplies maintaining supervisors’ calendar and schedule calls, etc
* Submitting invoices and bills to the Accounting Team on behalf of the department
* Fielding backlist requests and responding to a variety of media, author, and bookseller questions

The Essentials:
* Genuine interest in publicity and book publishing
* Familiarity with media, news, and online organizations
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Strong attention to detail and project management skills
* Ability to meet deadlines, multitask, and prioritize
* Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
* Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs
* Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Canva is a plus but not a requirement (training available)

Salary for this position is $45,000.  Full-time employees are eligible for our comprehensive benefits program.
