Position Summary
The Broad College of Business is seeking an innovative and strategic Web Manager to join our team environment in the Marketing and Communications Office. The successful candidate will oversee projects and platforms that allow the college to communicate via its website and related digital mediums. This position plays a key role in creating and maintaining the college’s digital strategy, balancing the maintenance of existing digital communication platforms while improving the user experience and anticipating future needs. This includes but is not limited to supporting and developing the college’s content management and enterprise search platforms.

An integral part of our team’s efforts in advancing the Broad College’s mission and vision, the ideal candidate will work collaboratively with communicators, leadership, faculty, and staff. The ideal candidate will also maintain vendor relationships, provide project management, assist with the creation of appropriate processes and workflows, ensure compliance with university accessibility and branding standards, provide documentation and training needs, and ensure support and customer service are available to platform users. The Web Manager will also maintain connections with and facilitate information sharing between campus partners and other MSU units. This position will report to the Senior Communications and Marketing Director and work in close collaboration with the Broad College IT team.
Strategy and Coordination - 30%
Collaborates with college leadership, marketing and communications office staff, and key stakeholders to align actions with MSU and Broad College vision and mission.
Provides leadership and support to identify, prioritize, and appropriately execute web and digital platform initiatives in the Broad College.
Regularly reviews digital presence and recommends viable best practices to ensure a positive user experience.
Assists with planning and anticipating budget requirements for web platforms and services.
Identifies and discusses opportunities, challenges, and strategies to leverage digital platforms to accomplish college priorities.
Attends related MSU meetings such as Web Dev CAFÉ, University Communicators Network (UCN), Digital Accessibility Liaisons, etc.
Platform Responsibilities - 30%
Maintains and enhances digital platforms including WordPress, by identifying needs and working with vendors to meet those needs.
Maintains relationship with Squiz and ensures proper configuration and use of Funnelback search.
Maintains relationships with other digital vendors and partner organizations as appropriate.
Ensures proper collection and use of website analytics via Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager.
Analyzes and makes changes to web site content based on data from Google Analytics and Google Search Console to ensure proper communication to the public.
Ensures compliance with digital accessibility standards via Funnelback scanner and manual testing.
Ensures compliance with MSU branding standards via collaboration with University Communications.
Ensures appropriate infrastructure and metrics are in place for monitoring effectiveness of digital efforts including appropriate use of Google Analytics.
Ensures all platforms have appropriate backups through the vendor or other appropriate means.
Ensures all platforms and processes have appropriate documentation.
Support Responsibilities - 40%
Manages website creation process, responding to needs for new websites and web-based resources.
Enforces website and content lifecycles, archiving content and websites that are no longer needed.
Creates and disperses appropriate training materials and opportunities related to web strategy and maintenance to relevant stakeholders throughout the college.
Email newsletter management: Manage email lists; coordinate with college staff to determine mailing content; compose and send newsletters via iModules (Broad Weekly, alumni newsletter, additional less-frequent college mailings); collect or supervise collection of media mentions for Broad Weekly/MarCom tracking/faculty directory
Ensures any system user has access to prompt customer service and self-service resources.
Manages product task backlogs and prioritizes processing and completing them as appropriate.
Assist with recommending optimizations to Broad College program nurture drip campaigns by suggesting action items based on campaign performance
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related information technology field, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated experience with and excellence in: content management systems such as WordPress; Imodules, Mailchimp, or other email crm systems, Google Ad Words, Analytics; copyediting and proofreading, with knowledge of AP style; and project management software such as Asana. Evidence of a commitment to ongoing learning of social media trends and current best practices, with a curiosity to try new things and bring fresh ideas to the table.
Exceptional interpersonal skills with individuals and groups in a diverse environment as well as strong oral, written, and digital communication skills; passionate attention to detail; and an ability to lead projects from idea to completion.
