Summary You will serve as a Telecommunication Specialist located in Waterfront Field Support (10942), Waterfront & Productions Information Technology (IT) Support Division (1094), Information Technology & Cybersecurity (ITACS) Office (109) at NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will install, maintain, test, and troubleshoot IT related physical infrastructure. This may include end user devices and various types of cables or other hardware/equipment that support device connectivity over wired or wireless connections. You will provide support for new technologies that provide connectivity and communication over different areas of the electromagnetic spectrum. You will provide support in the management of all work performed related to all aspects of the NNSY IT physical infrastructure. You will act as a project leader for IT physical infrastructure related assignments; documents project plans, resolve outstanding issues, and provide necessary updates for higher-level review. You will be involved in project planning, capabilities development, and is responsible for the planning, coordination, installation, management, and administration of IT physical infrastructure in support of NNSY and other supported organizations. You will participate as a subject matter expert in the analysis, planning, and evaluation of IT physical infrastructure, or service delivery. You will define, document, implement, and maintain IT physical infrastructure and follow established policies, procedures, and guidelines related to change management, personnel safety, and other Shipyard or OSHA requirements. You will provide customer support related functions and work with other groups to install, troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve service interruption or service delivery issues. You will follow established policies, use approved tools and methods to complete assigned work and document actions performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and guidelines. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Demonstrating extensive knowledge of IT concepts and terminology related to the management of the organization's IT resources and the formulation and dissemination of IT policies and plans needed to support the mission of the organization. Demonstrating extensive knowledge of physical infrastructure and IT standards and protocols to configure, install, maintain, inspect and design IT physical infrastructure. Demonstrating extensive knowledge of Local Area Network/Wide Area Network (LAN/WAN) networking principles and concepts to assist in the development of LAN/WAN systems. Demonstrating thorough knowledge and understanding of the OSI model layer 1 infrastructure to include, terminations, testing, and certification methods of various IT physical infrastructure that includes end user devices, supports end user connectivity, Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) cable infrastructure and connections; may also include infrastructure that support wireless connectivity Demonstrating extensive knowledge of physical architecture and infrastructure to perform management functions, evaluate operational characteristics and advantages/disadvantages to identify the most appropriate and efficient hardware to use to fulfill the requirements of the customers. Demonstrating extensive knowledge and skill in written and oral communications sufficient to prepare reports and present recommendations. Demonstrating knowledge and skill in written and oral communications sufficient to prepare reports and present recommendations.
