Associate or Senior Editor, Nature Biochemistry/Molecular Biology

Springer Nature, New York, NY

A world-leading research, educational, and professional publisher.

Duration: Full-Time

Nature, the international weekly journal of science, seeks to appoint an Associate or Senior Editor in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology.

Do you love science but feel that a career at the bench or in academia is not enough to satisfy your desire to learn more about the natural world? Do you enjoy reading studies outside your chosen area of research? Are you intensely curious about the detailed mechanisms of molecular processes? If the answers are ‘yes’, you might be the person we are looking for to join the editorial team of Nature.

Nature seeks to appoint an editor specializing in biochemistry/molecular biology to join a team dedicated to publishing the world's highest impact original research across the sciences. The successful candidate will report to the Team Manager for Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and will play a key role in determining how these fields are represented in the journal, through the vetting and selection of manuscripts for publication and by closely interacting with the relevant research communities.

The successful candidate will be expected to have a keen interest in mechanistic and structural studies in a variety of fields. This is a demanding and intellectually stimulating position, and it requires a high dedication to the practice and communication of science. The successful candidate will be fully engaged with other team members in the biological sciences, and will liaise not only with the physical sciences and magazine teams at Nature, but also with editors at other journals within the Nature Portfolio. Previous editorial experience is required to be considered at the Senior Editor level.

To be considered for the position, you will have:
* A PhD (or equivalent), with expertise in biochemistry, molecular biology, and/or structural biology. Post-doctoral experience is preferred.
* A strong track record of scientific research.
* A passion for science and a thirst for continual learning. You must be able to demonstrate the breadth of your interest in scientific research, both within and beyond your own expertise.
* An ability to read and assess the novelty, context, and implications of research submitted to the journal from different areas within these disciplines.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential.
* An eagerness to travel to conferences and to interact with scientists worldwide, to learn more about them and their research, and to help them understand our processes and what we are seeking editorially in the papers we publish.

The position is offered on a permanent basis and may be located in our New York, London, or Berlin office. Applicants must be able to demonstrate the right to live and work in the country for which they wish to be considered.

Most employees are currently working remotely. Once the offices fully re-open, all employees will be expected to be based in the office in line with our work from home policy.

Please apply by sending a cover letter, CV, and a concise discussion of recent scientific developments that you have found particularly exciting (stating why).

The closing date for applications is October 14, 2021.
