Under the direction of the managing editor, the City Editor will oversee assignment and editing duties for the

Colorado Springs Gazette and assist editors at other Clarity publications. Additional duties may be assigned

pending operational needs.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assign stories, visuals and other content and work with reporters and other journalists in producing credible and compelling journalism. Write and develop stories as needed.
  • Oversee, develop and edit daily and advance content for The Colorado Springs Gazette, and other Clarity publications as assigned. Ensure that all Clarity journalism standards are followed, including accuracy, fairness and style.
  • Oversee planning and production of digital, print and other news products.
  • Consistently meet deadlines.
  • Assist in pagination and other production duties as assigned or warranted.
  • Serve as chief liaison for customers and other community feedback.
  • Supervise reporters and other news employees as assigned.
  • Assist in budgeting, scheduling and other personnel duties.

Minimum Education & Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 5 years of digital news experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in editing and assigning.
  • Management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of libel law and other legal issues
