Assistant Sales Manager

Job Summary

Member of the marketing teams involved in the promotion of sales and the establishing, maintaining, and retention of customers.

Duties & Responsibilities

Direct to marketing
1. Cultivating and maintain relationship with various groups such as vendors, Customers and Sales representatives. This includes ensuring customer satisfaction, taking orders, answer questions, correct problems by phone, fax and email.
2. Develops and manages databases to collect information and contact information of key retail accounts in North American territories
3. Communicates with key accounts and provides advance reading copies to advertise and complement the work of commission sales reps.
4. Tracks and analyzes websites and social media statistics to optimize our publishing strengths with the network of specialty shops and museums
5. Coordinates campaigns and organizes book sales at author appearances and conferences. As well as, communicates and networks at regional bookseller show(s) and other events by working closely with the marketing and communications teams.
6. Attend appropriate marketing meetings including Internal Review committee and Transmittal committee to direct marketing efforts.

Higher Education Promotion
1. Develops book lists for course adoption promotion in marketing planning
2. Research comparable book titles through social media platforms
3. Maintain exam and desk copy database; provides regular reports to internal staff to assist with further promotion and marketing of Higher Education
4. Coordinate with professors and bookstores on forthcoming or low stock titles for class orders
5. Tracks and analyzes the desk and examination database to target specific course adoption possibilities and contact appropriate professors with targeted marketing e-mails

Inventory
1. Review of all in-print titles for monthly report identifying low inventory titles, slow selling titles, possible OSC or OP titles, monitor key class use titles closely
2. Order reprints in coordination with production
3. Select titles for addition to the Print on Demand program based on inventory reports
4. Create and send notification of book status (OP/POD/OSC) and price changes to booksellers, vendors, Press staff, and CDC
5. Directs efforts to ensure material listed on Amazon are set for advertised release dates and update as appropriate
6. Organizes the promotion and marketing efforts to sell overstock inventory to key markets and buyers
7. Create new release report for short run POD scenarios
8. Hires, trains and Manages students
9. Manages academic exhibits inventory

Seasonal Catalog / Sales Conference Preparation
1. Send Excel file of new seasonal BIP data for national accounts and domestic and international sales representatives upon request
2. Assemble seasonal sales materials for sales reps
3. Mail catalog to CAT 1 list as soon as catalogs arrive, arrange international catalog bulk shipments
4. Prepare and arrange catalog mailing of sales database customers
5. Assist Marketing & Sales Manager on Edelweiss content

Commissions
Maintain monthly commission report for independent sales force, provide business office with monthly commission due for each group, mail copies to sales reps

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field. One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area.


Preferred Qualifications
1. Three years of sales experience.
2. Experience marketing scholarly content.
3. Bookselling experience.
4. Scholarly publishing experience.

1. Willingness to contribute to a culture of teamwork at the Press.
2. High degree of organization and follow-through.
3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
4. Ability to balance multiple competing demands.
5. Some travel required.
6. Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to advancing and advocating for scholarship in the humanities and/or humanistic social sciences.

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5004 - Marketing Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. Salary is commensurate with experience.
