JOB TITLE: Managing Editor

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS NECESSARY: The award-winning WWAY News team is looking for a strong, experienced newsroom leader to help guide our team into the future!
WWAY, the ABC, CBS and CW affiliate serving beautiful coastal southeastern North Carolina, is seeking a Managing Editor. This key leadership role helps supervise the day-to-day operations of our newsroom and reports to the News Director.
Responsibilities include:
• Direct supervision, coaching, and mentoring of reporters, producers, and anchors
• Managing daily story selection, assignments, script approvals, and newsroom rundowns
• Leading daily editorial meetings and assisting reporters in sharpening story focus
• Overseeing story development and special coverage (elections, sports, severe weather, and community events)
• Managing our web and social media presence
• Inserting breaking news or weather updates before and during live broadcasts
• Leads the newsroom in the News Director's absence
Qualifications:
• Strong writing, storytelling, and editorial judgment
• At least 3-5 years of full-time, professional newsroom experience (producing background preferred)
• Ability to lead under pressure, especially during breaking news and severe weather
• ENPS and Edius experience a plus
• Positive, professional attitude
• Valid driver's license and good driving record required
