- June 2026 - 3.53% increase to base pay (3.5% Across-the-Board + 0.03% Market Inc.)
- June 2027 - 3.03% increase to base pay (3% Across-the-Board + 0.03% Market Inc.)
Employees in this job classification assigned to a Rural Library location may be eligible for a 5% premium. An Employee’s Principal Work Location must be one of the following to be eligible: Alpine, Borrego Springs, Campo, Crest, Descanso, Fallbrook, Fletcher Hills, Jacumba, Julian, Lincoln Acres, Pine Valley, Potrero, Ramona, or Valley Center.

As a Librarian II, you will proactively collaborate with community groups, local leaders, Friends of the Library, and partner organizations—including other County Libraries—to build strong community relationships and generate public support for library initiatives. You will liaison with local elected officials and government agencies to advocate for library services and resources.
This classification is responsible for delivering advanced technical, professional, and managerial library services. As a Librarian II, you may assist in overseeing a major service area within a branch or library division or serve as an Adult or Children’s Services Librarian.
In addition, you will provide leadership, supervision, and training to both professional and paraprofessional staff, fostering a collaborative, service-oriented environment committed to continuous improvement and community engagement.

HIRING TIMELINE & DATES
- Job Offer and Background Process begins in October 2025. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
- Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
- Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.
Minimum Qualifications
- A master's degree in Library Science (MLS) from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, AND two (2) years of full-time experience as a professional librarian; OR,
- A master's degree as described above, AND one (1) year of full-time experience as a Librarian I with the County of San Diego.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
EVALUATION PROCESS
Qualified candidates will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental applications.
