Hourly Rate:$18.09 per hour; non-exempt classification
Duration: Academic Year (Fall/Spring) with the possibility of extension
Work Schedule: Up to 20 hours/week (no more than 999 hours per calendar year.) Schedule developed with the Senior Events & Technical Services Coordinator
Training Period: Two months with the possibility of extension
General Statement:
Under the general supervision of the Senior Events & Technical Services Coordinator, the Media Services Assistantprovides technical support to the University-Student Union (U-SU). The Media Services Assistant is responsible for performing varied technical tasks and projects related to performances and events in the U-SU facility.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists with the set-up and operation of theatre events and performances;
- Assists with the operation of sound and audio-visual equipment;
- Reads and plans daily tasks from reports;
- Attends to and reports on events as scheduled;
- Performs vacuuming, carpet cleaning, floor stripping, waxing, and minor electrical repairs on audio-visual equipment;
- Ensures facilities are secure after performances and events;
- Provides quality customer service to the University community;
- Provides information about the University-Student Union and the University to the campus community;
- Greets all guests and directs guests to the appropriate resource;
- Maintains an awareness of all University-Student Union and University activities and events;
- Assists with projects and events, and may assist staff with leading Event Services Aides on projects;
- Performs set-ups and breakdowns of tables, seating, riser platforms, and equipment as needed;
- Provides support with enforcing policies and procedures;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled Cal State LA student with a minimum of 6 undergraduate units and a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0, or graduate student with at least 4 graduate units and a minimum Cal State LA cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0;
- Willingness to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student body and staff;
- Ability to interact positively and build effective working relationships;
- Willingness to provide effective customer service promptly and courteously;
- Ability to respond to walk-ins and other inquiries;
- Proficient oral, written, and listening skills;
- Strong organizational skills: the ability to prioritize and complete assigned duties and varied tasks;
- Strong interpersonal and group communication skills in a team environment;
- Must be self-motivated, able to adapt to changing workloads, and have some independent judgment;
- Ability to lift 70 pounds;
- Experience using various technical equipment, desktop and web-based applications, and office equipment;
- Ability to make decisions based on established policies and procedures;
- Ability to set up, operate, and maintain audio-visual equipment;
- Customer service experience preferred.
A background check/live scan (including a criminal record check) must be completed satisfactorily for an employment offer to remain valid.
