Position Summary:NJIT is a top-tier research university, having achieved R1 status by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Learning. HCAD at NJIT is one of the largest architecture and design schools in the United States and is conveniently located in the New York metropolitan region. Our college provides faculty and students exciting opportunities for teaching, scholarship, research, and service. We offer graduate (Masters and PhD) and undergraduate degrees in digital, interior, and industrial design, as well as architecture and urban systems. HCAD is one of six colleges and schools in a public polytechnic university that attracts a diversity of faculty and students, and that encourages collaboration across disciplines.
TheJ. Robert and Barbara A. Hillier College of Architecture and Design (HCAD) atthe New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) invites applications for twofull-time tenure-track or tenured appointments in Design at the rank ofAssistant or Associate Professor. The appointment is within the School of Art +Design at HCAD.
Essential Functions:We seek accomplished educators anddesigners with a strong research agenda and record of teaching excellence in atleast one of the following areas:- In Digital Design: digital animation, film making and virtualproduction, VFX, game design and development, HCI, or digital media and cultureto teach design studio, lecture, and/or seminar courses to undergraduate andgraduate students.- In Industrial Design: HCI, UI/UX, consumer electronics and sensing,ergonomics, human factors, healthcare, product design and development,environment and sustainability, manufacturing process, and systems.- In Interior Design: evidence-based design methodologies that includeemerging materials,
human factors,well-being, and health as well as a wide range of environmental considerationsincluding sustainability, daylighting and life cycle assessment (LCA). Prioritywill be given to candidates with NCIDQ certification.
Prerequisite Qualifications:- The candidate's expertise mayoriginate in many creative academic or professional areas. Candidates shouldhold a terminal degree in the field from an accredited program, or itsequivalent, such as M.F.A., M. Arch., M.ID or Ph. D. A proven record ofexcellence in teaching, and research and/or creative practice is required.- At theuniversity's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may beexempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of theuniversity, an equivalent combination of education and experience specificallypreparing the candidate for success in the position.
Special Instructions toApplicants:-Candidates should have a clearresearch agenda related to their design work and will be expected to pursuethis agenda through scholarly activities such as publishing papers and/orbooks, presenting work at conferences, and designing peer-recognized work.Successful candidates will be expected to participate in service activitieswithin HCAD and NJIT, as well within their profession and/or discipline.
