Title: Instruction and Reference Services Librarian

FLSA: Exempt
Hiring Range: Hiring Range is $79,341 to $85,000. Starting salary is commensurate based on experience, education, and other credentials appropriately related to the position within the specified hiring range.
Full Time or Part Time: Full Time
Under the direction of the Dean of Libraries, the Instruction and Reference Services Librarian assumes overall responsibility for library instruction and reference services at the Loudoun Campus Library.
Duties and Tasks:
- Manage library instruction program for the Loudoun Campus including collaborating with other librarians and staff to ensure library instruction requests are met.
- Develop and deliver effective instruction to classes using appropriate technology, resources and pedagogical strategies.
- Participate in instruction assessment activities.
- Provide individualized reference and instruction assistance to students, faculty, staff and community users.
- Participate in college faculty activities and professional development.
- Participate in collection development. Participate in supervision of library staff.
Essential Functions:
- Manage library instruction program for the Loudoun Campus, provide reference and course-integrated instruction in person and virtually, manage circulation desk services; provide technology support and troubleshooting; and provide staff supervision and training.
- Make regular requests from employees for updates and input on college decisions and share feedback with supervisors for inclusion in the NOVA Brief.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in library science or equivalent from an American Library Association-accredited master’s degree program.
- Relevant library instruction and/or academic teaching experience.
- Some supervisory and academic library experience.
- Some experience providing instruction and reference services.
- Knowledge of all aspects of current academic library services, including integrated library systems such as Alma, reference and instruction, collection development, and technical user support; demonstrated experience developing and using research/instructional tools such as Libguides; awareness of current issues and trends in libraries; experience using course management systems such as Canvas, online collaborative productivity tools such as Springshare products, and content management systems; excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.
