Basic Function
Please Note: Kern Community College District accepts applications for part-time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. This allows the division to contact qualified applicants immediately if a need arises, without waiting for advertisement. Applications remain active for up to two years. The district is seeking adjunct instructors for the Communication department at Bakersfield College, with a starting rate of $65/hour, which may vary based on assignment and LHE formula. Refer to the CCA collective bargaining agreement or HR for details.
Representative Duties
This pool is used to staff assignments at the Bakersfield Community College Main Campus. The successful applicant will teach courses such as public speaking, interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, and small group communication. Opportunities may include teaching rhetoric, argumentation, persuasion, organizational communication, leadership, and health communication. Teaching may occur at other campus sites, during day or evening, weekends, in large classes, and via multiple methodologies. All courses are face-to-face.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication, or organizational communication.
- OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in drama/theater arts, mass communication, or English.
- OR the equivalent. Candidates must request and submit an Application for Equivalence if applicable, with supporting documents.
Must demonstrate sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and have degrees from accredited institutions. Foreign degrees require evaluation by NACES or ACEI. Meeting minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview; the screening committee reserves the right to limit interviews.
