Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Sr. Design Specialist to support key program initiatives through the creation of advanced mechanical and electro-mechanical designs. This role involves developing innovative concepts for complex components, assemblies, and systems, while ensuring compliance with engineering and military standards. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in CAD tools (especially Creo 9), mechanical design standards, and design for manufacturability. This is a full-time, onsite position.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical and electro-mechanical concepts and designs for a range of product complexities
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, vendors, and customers to meet design specifications
- Ensure CAD designs are free from layout process defects and meet transition requirements for simulation tools
- Apply CAD methodologies and techniques, primarily using Creo 9
- Create and prepare detailed design layouts, schematics, test plans, and technical documentation to ASME or military standards
- Perform tolerance analysis and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Review and check drawings and documentation for completeness, accuracy, and conformance to engineering standards
- Assist in defining design standards and ensure compliance with MILSPEC/STD requirements
- Provide expert consultation on design feasibility, producibility, material choices, and integration with system-level requirements
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 9 years of design/drafting experience using Pro-E/Creo CAD system
- Associate degree in engineering drafting/design or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least five years of experience working with advanced design concepts and applications
- Proficient in 3D modeling, tolerance analysis, and GD&T
- Comprehensive knowledge of military and industrial standards (MILSPEC, ASME, etc.)
- Strong understanding of production methods and human factors engineering
- Familiarity with preparing drawing packages for military-grade products
- Experience coordinating with cross-functional teams, including systems engineers
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Model-Based Definition (MBD)
- Advanced understanding of Creo 9-specific features and workflows
- In-depth product line knowledge at component, subsystem, and system levels
Certifications
- None required, though certification in CAD tools or GD&T may be beneficial
