This communications specialist will also support crisis communications for emerging issues and concerns with the utmost integrity, transparency and humanity.This position reports to the International Services and Service to the Armed Forces communications manager, and provides expertise and support to the greater Communications Department
The work location for this exciting opportunity is virtual. The selected candidate will work 100% remotely from home and can be located anywhere in the United States with a preference to work East Coast hours.
WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):* Develop and execute national communications strategy for the Service to Armed Forces and International Services division of the American Red Cross.* Write and produce compelling communication materials including press releases, key messages, stories, talking points, FAQs, media statements, website stories, internal updates and other items for consumption by a variety of audiences.* Serve as on-the-record spokesperson for local, national, and global media outlets, develop briefing materials and prepare other spokespeople as necessary.* Support crisis communications strategy and support to tell the Red Cross story and maintain trust in the organization, mitigating risk to reputation.* Collaborate with the Social Engagement team to create content and support corporate social media efforts.* Collaborate with the Media Relations team to identify and proactively pitch stories, reactively field media calls and provide media interviews.* Support video and photography scripting, scheduling and production for international content and storytelling.* Build and maintain relationships with field staff and NHQ program leads to help create and execute appropriate communication plans, strategies and tactics.* Collaborate with business stakeholders and corporate support departments - including Fundraising, Marketing and Government Relations - to implement innovative tactics that drive business results and elevate the visibility of Red Cross.* Potentially deploy to international disasters on behalf of the global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to serve as public affairs delegate and on-the-record spokesperson.* Serve as a secondary liaison with communications staff in the global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, government agencies, military branches and veteran service organizations.* Serve as a force-multiplier for the Communications Department during large scale disasters or other critical efforts.* Other duties as assigned.Scope: Individual contributor that works under limited supervision. Apply subject matter knowledge. Capacity to understand specific needs or requirements to apply skills/knowledge.Qualified candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (required/minimum qualifications):* Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.* Minimum 5 years communications experience.* Excellent writing and editing skills, and familiarity with Associated Press-style writing.* Ability to write quickly and clearly to respond to emerging issues across communications platforms.* Dedicated to continuously monitor media and social media trends to implement innovative tactics to secure greater mission awareness.* Understand nuances, comfortable working in gray areas - all with the highest personal integrity.* Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment with competing priorities.* Ability to work well with colleagues at all levels, including senior leaders.* Proven track record of communications execution to advance business goals.* Strong critical thinking, strategic planning skills to ensure effective communications.* Independent problem solver and self-starter.* Strong organization and project management skills.* Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.* Ability to handle occasional irregular and weekend hours.* Familiarity with the complexities of communicating related to U.S. military.* Basic understanding of the Red Cross mission and values.
WHAT WILL GIVE YOU A COMPETITIVE EDGE (preferred qualifications):* Additional language fluency, such as French or Spanish, a plus.* Combination of candidate's education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description's minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++PAY INFORMATION:The starting annual salary range for this position is $60K - $72K. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role.
