Position Overview
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
As a premier Historically Black University, The NCCU School of Education offers undergraduate, graduate, licensure and professional programs to train students to become teachers, counselors, and administrators in PK-16 schools and related settings. The school offers traditional, classroom-based instruction as well as instruction via the Internet and teleconferencing. Faculty and staff bring diverse knowledge and experience, provide students with unique learning experiences, teach in small class settings for easier access to each other and their instructors, and employ the latest technology. The School of Education houses two academic departments: the Department of Curriculum & Instruction and the Department of Counseling & Higher Education.
Primary Purpose of Position
As a member of the School of Education, the Recruitment and Marketing Specialist utilizes a strategic plan to develop and implement a program that aims to recruit prospective education students and is responsible for planning, organizing, and participating in recruitment activities and functions. The Recruitment and Marketing Specialist implements outreach to prospective student populations, community and educational partners, manages School of Education visits/tours, and delivers information sessions. They also collaborate with program coordinators and department chairs in the development and revisions of marketing materials.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of student recruitment and retention issues, effective recruitment strategies, human relations/personnel practices, student information systems, and effective customer-service practices. Candidates must possess the ability to develop and deliver presentations; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; develop university aligned marketing materials; and engage in strategic planning and implementation including the collection and analysis of data for program evaluation. Strong interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations are expected. The ability to travel across the state and nation is required.
Minimum Education/Experience
Master’s degree; or an equivalent combination of a Bachelor’s degree and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
Valid NC driver’s license with driving record in alignment with expectations of the university.

Build lasting partnerships with local community stakeholders and with local schools in the surrounding LEAs. Effective and intentional marketing is essential for recruitment.

Manage and maintain records and databases. Collects and analyzes data for reporting of efforts and outcomes related to marketing and recruitment. Data are process and outcome oriented and may include University College student transfers, Curriculum & Instruction advising lists, retention/recruitment activities sign-in lists, summer advising information, # of recruitment events attended, % of prospective students admitted, follow-up information from retention/recruitment activities, etc. It is expected that marketing and recruitment efforts will have a direct effect on enrollment.
