Overview
W. W. Norton is seeking a Contracts Associate for its Contracts Department. This employee will work closely with the Contracts Director, Contracts Manager, Contracts Associate, Contracts Assistants and other departments.
Essential Job Responsibilities Include:
- Draft, negotiate and track book agreements and related documents for various divisions
- Manage and track on-going negotiations with authors and their representatives
- Review and negotiate subsidiary rights agreements
- Review permission licenses and logs for trade authors
- Manage signature process in Docusign
- Collaborate in-house with editors, legal counsel, and royalties staff
- Attend weekly editorial meetings to keep abreast of upcoming deals
- Review contract files and research queries, as needed
- Provide general department support and handle special projects as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Employment eligibility to work with W. W. Norton & Company in the U.S.
- Strong writing skills required
- 2 - 4+ years of book publishing experience in contracts preferred
- Excellent time management skills and ability to effectively prioritize
- Ability to work independently
- Close attention to detail and excellent organization and prioritization skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to work full business hours from Norton’s New York City headquarters
Technical Skills
- Must possess very strong computer skills particularly in MS Office
Compensation and Benefits*
Currently available benefits include:
- Annual compensation for this position is $55,000-65,000. All salaries and salary ranges posted by Norton may vary depending on experience, skills, location, and like considerations.
