The Backend Web Developer Tier 2 is responsible for building new and improving existing web applications in our open source technology environment. Purple Wave is actively seeking a skilled and motivated Backend Web Developer Tier 2 to join our team. The Backend Web Developer Tier 2 is responsible for building new and improving existing web applications in our open source technology environment. This role will create and/or revise applications based off of prioritized business outcomes as well as provide application technical support. This position is remote work eligible.
Responsibilities
Develop and enhance server services using Ruby on Rails, adapting to our open source technology environment.
Create and revise backend(API) services based on requirements, ensuring adherence to design and architectural principles.
Provide technical support for applications, troubleshooting issues, and implementing solutions.
Utilise your expertise in frameworks similar to Rails, such as Django, Laravel, Spring Boot, Express, or Phoenix.
Work with standard development tools such as Git and Jira for version control, issue tracking, and project management.
Implement queuing and caching mechanisms to enhance application performance.
Apply SQL and database design skills to ensure efficient data storage and retrieval.
Collaborate with the team to work within an existing codebase, maintaining the current design structure and ensuring code quality.
Follow Scrum principles, adapting to changing requirements and priorities.
Support the team and business in creating small, releasable sprints, delivering value incrementally.
Actively engage in the Scrum process, identifying and resolving impediments to help the team achieve their goals.
Participate in company, department, and process changes, actively contributing to their execution and success.
Facilitate knowledge sharing within the team and seek opportunities for individual and team improvement.
Train and mentor team members, sharing expertise and fostering professional growth.
Recognize how the team's work impacts other areas within the organization, fostering collaboration and alignment.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
5 years of experience.
Strong technical proficiency in Ruby on Rails, JavaScript/TypeScript, ReactJS, Node.js, ExpressJS, and REST APIs.
Experience with standard development tools such as Git for version control and Jira for issue tracking.
Knowledge and practical experience with queuing/caching technologies like RabbitMQ, Elasticsearch, and Redis.
Proficiency in SQL and database design, particularly with MySQL/MariaDB.
Familiarity with service/worker design patterns for building scalable and efficient applications.
Understanding of product architecture and ability to work within an existing codebase while maintaining design structure.
Thorough understanding of Scrum principles and agile methodologies, including sprint planning and prioritization.
Proactive involvement in the Scrum process, identifying and resolving impediments to support the team's goals.
Strong team dynamics, actively participating in company, department, and process changes.
Demonstrated ability to facilitate knowledge sharing and contribute to team improvement.
Experience training and mentoring team members, promoting professional growth and development.
Ability to influence others through the organization's core values, fostering a positive work culture.

Working Settings
Full-time Salaried Exempt, not eligible for overtime.
Office hours are 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday, Central Time zone, additional hours may be required depending on priorities.
This position is remote work eligible within the United States. Please note: the first week of employment training is required to be in the Manhattan, KS headquarters.
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Compensation
The annual salary varies based on experience and qualifications, but typically ranges from $80,000 to $100,000 per year. Salary paid bi-weekly.
Monthly Bonus Program - determined by the Company’s monthly revenue result and are paid on a “percent to plan” payout formula (90% = $300, 100% = $600, 110% = $900, 120% = $1,200).
Monthly phone stipend in accordance with the Company’s cell phone policy, currently $120/month.
Health, Dental, and Vision starting the first of the month after 60 days of employment.
401(k) plan with an employer match up to 4% starting the first day of employment.
Company-paid Life Insurance benefit of $25,000 with options to add more through employee contribution starting the first of the month after 60 days of employment.
Personal Time Off (PTO) annual amount of 120 hours which is prorated based on the number of days between the 60th day of employment and the end of the calendar year. May vary to comply with state requirements.
Eligible to participate in the Company Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP) after 90 days of employment, with enrollment opportunities each May and November.
