Reporting to the Assistant Director of Corporate Communications, the Corporate Communications Writer will create a variety of communication content for AVMA’s internal and external messaging efforts designed to enhance the association’s image and reputation, support execution of the AVMA’s communication strategies, communicate the association’s brand, and strengthen member and staff engagement. The position will also support the Media Relations team, as needed.
To be successful in this role, you must be passionate about AVMA’s mission and highly collaborative. Additional qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related field
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in internal and external communications, including experience with the development, planning and implementation of strategic corporate communications programs; not-for-profit association experience is preferred
- Strong writing and editing skills, including speech-writing experience, are required, along with demonstrated business-to-customer writing ability
- Ability to synthesize information and write clearly, logically and persuasively on governance-related topics, as well as complex scientific topics for diverse scientific and non-scientific audiences
- Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) and interacts effectively across many channels
- Strong project management experience, and handles multiple priorities and deadlines, functioning well autonomously and as a team member
- Basic computer software skills are required, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and various Web platforms, along with knowledge of various social media platforms
- Ability to conduct environmental scanning of critical issues
- Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours, and travel on behalf of the AVMA (less than 5%), are required

A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $55,000 - $70,000. Compensation decisions consider a wide range of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, certifications, geographic location, business needs and organizational policies. Additionally, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer.
