Overview
The Publicity Assistant will report to two Associate Directors of Publicity in the St Martin’s Publishing Group publicity department. In addition to departmental administrative duties, this position will provide support for publicizing a variety of books and authors, with a focus on nonfiction books in the areas of current events, history, culture, business, and political genres. This role provides administrative support to both managers as well as assisting on publicity campaigns. There are also opportunities for handling independent publicity campaigns within the SMPG group across fiction and nonfiction genres.
What you'll do:
Providing administrative support for two Associate Directors of Publicity
Sharing departmental duties such as directing email queries and sharing department and company-wide publicity updates
Doing one-off and occasional batch mailings of ARCs and finished books
Assisting in writing and distributing compelling press releases and creative pitch letters
Assisting with author book tours, booking travel, and maintaining schedules
Assisting in outreach to targeted media
Monitoring book coverage in key media outlets and tracking bestseller information
Researching media outlets and event venues and updating publicity database
Processing invoices and keeping updated budget records
Organizing and submitting for Book Awards
What you'll bring:
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks with competing deadlines
Work independently in in-person and/or hybrid work environments
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong work-ethic, curiosity, and a proactive approach to projects
Creative problem solving
Proficiency with Google Workplace, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and the ability to learn and manage new systems
This role is currently based out of New York, New York. The ability to work in a hybrid remote/in-office environment is a plus
Desirable: Ability to attend author events in NY/NJ/CT area
Ideal Experience/Education:
Relevant work experience to match the required skills/knowledge above
Internship at a publishing house or in a public relations capacity
Bachelor's Degree or relevant work experience
This role will have an annual salary of $47,500.
