Overview
WFIU Radio and WTIU TV seek a part-time journalist with at least 1 year experience to join their converged newsroom. The chosen candidate will report on a number of community and regional stories, contribute to the news bureau's online presence, shoot and edit video and serve as a fill-in television newscaster on WTIU's daily news headlines.
Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Conducts in-field interviews.
- Writes and produces news stories for radio, TV and the web, for local, state and national audiences.
- Works closely with a team of editors and incorporates feedback into scripts.
- Fills in as anchor for television newscasts.
- Attends daily story meetings, researches ideas in advance, and pitches story ideas.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- Pursuing a bachelor's degree in journalism, telecommunication, or a related field.
Required
- 1 year of experience in a broadcast and/or journalism field.
Required
- Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
Required
- Experience working with multi-platform technologies and the ability to adapt material to a variety of platforms while adhering to AP style guidelines.
- In-depth understanding of journalistic principles, particularly as they apply to public media.
- Hands-on experience in writing, reporting, editing, production, and on-air delivery.
- Ability to produce a television or radio news story from conception to broadcast.
- Ability to function in a fast-paced, 24/7/365 news environment.

Advertised Salary
$12.50 per hour
Work Hours
Must be available to work some evenings and weekends on short notice. Part-time employees at Indiana University may not work over 29 hours per week across all University-held positions.
