Annoyed With Coworkers? Avoid These Seven Pitfalls

boxing glovesIf you’re a bit annoyed with a coworker or two, take a deep breath and proceed with caution.

Per our friends at the Brazen Careerist, there are a few key pointers to keep in mind.

For starters, communication is truly everything. You’ll be judged by how you handle yourself professionally. Although it may be difficult dealing with a colleague who is irritating, lazy or undermining, keep the big picture in mind. Experiences like this only make you stronger.

Here are several pitfalls to avoid.

1. Criticizing in public. Per the piece, there’s no need to chastise in public. Pointing out that someone is incompetent in front of the folks on top of the masthead won’t exactly put you in the brightest light.

2. Making accusations. “You always have to undermine everything.” Um, yeah please refrain from saying something like that. Or this: “We would have finished the project long ago if you didn’t pick everything apart.” Read more

New Survey Reveals Most Unusual Holiday Office Gifts: Toothpaste Squeezer, Anyone?

Okay, we just felt like channeling our inner Richard Dawson a la Family Feud but when a new survey comes out, we’re always intrigued by its results. The latest one from CareerBuilder is no different; per their national survey conducted from mid-August to early September, workers and hiring managers revealed their holiday gift exchanging habits.

For starters, 45 percent of employers are planning on giving holiday bonuses. This is on track with the percentage of 46 from last year. To that point, 40 percent said they were planning on giving the same amount or larger this month.

As for company gifts, 35 percent of employers stated they’re going to give holiday presents to their employees. Again, this is parallel to last year’s percentage of 36. Read more

Report Identifies 10 Jobs Where People Loathe Co-Workers (Spoiler Alert: Journalism is Not One of Them)

Co-workers got you down? You’re not alone. According to a recent report published by Payscale (via AOL Jobs), they¬†looked into jobs where people said they would ditch their co-workers if they could change one thing about their office.

As for the really good news, out of more than 28,000 responses from Payscale’s users, journalism did not make the top 10 miserable list! The occupations that did make the list typically encompassed support or operations roles. Read more
