Michael Pietsch Becomes CEO of Hachette Book Group

Michael Pietsch is leaving his post as the publisher of Little, Brown and Company and is becoming the CEO of the Hachette Book Group. He’ll officially replace his predecessor, David Young, on April 1.

Pietsch has an extensive literary background and as pointed out by The New York Times, he’s edited novelists like David Foster Wallace and James Patterson.

He told the newspaper: “It’s a bigger transition than I’ve ever made. The job of C.E.O. is much bigger than the job of a publisher. I get to drive the Maserati that David has built.”

According to the piece, Pietsch will report to Young through the transition date and will lead the company through a digital transition. It sounds like one of his first goals is to find his own replacement at Little, Brown which had been his employer since 1991.
